Medium-large mushroom distinguished by whitish convex cap, flattened with age. Fibrillose, staining yellow when bruised. Gills close, free at maturity, white, then pinkish and eventually dark brown. Stalk enlarged at base, solid or hollow, whitish, aging darker, base turning yellowish. Membranous veil forming skirtlike ring, small scales below ring. Saprophytic.
