Cyathus striatus — Fluted Bird's Nest — Agaricaceae
Grayish to brown cup-shaped mushroom with vertical grooves on inside of cups, exterior covered by hairs. Whitish or transparent lid. Brown to grayish-buff exterior persistent. Pale interior, eggs (Peridioles) whitish-gray, secured with tightly wound cords that remain attached, spores dispersed when raindrops strike cup, releasing the cord. Saprophytic.
Habitat: Wood chips, conifer needles, twigs, in gardens, other disturbed habitats.
