Medium-to-large mushroom. Rounded cap dark brown to pale, white warts; cap convex and flattened with age, sometimes striate margins at maturity; sticky when fresh. Warts yellow, fading to white, pale orange. Ring skirtlike, whitish. Whitish stalk as tall as cap diameter, broad at base. Gills free, crowded, white. Volva close-fitting, rim rolled back, sometimes concentric volval rings. Veil membranous. Mycorrhizal.
