.Small-to-medium mushroom. Columnar cap becoming planar or depressed with age, with incorporated debris, spines beneath. Aborted small caps sometimes present. White on new growth, orangish to brown. Short spines whitish to orange, becoming brown, pale tips. Woody stalk, tapered, orangish to cinnamon, aging brown, tapering downward. Mycorrhizal with conifers.
