Controlled burn of Longleaf Pine -- Pinus palustris
With over 500 species of plants native to the Southeastern states, the 14-acre Donald E. Davis Arboretum is a showcase for the region. Woodland paths lead passed small re-creations of local ecosystems and through stands of trees to ponds and streams. Although many trees are grown here, the Arboretum never seems crowded, as grassy openings blend with forested backdrops, and, in spring, azaleas and flowering trees add bright touches to the unfolding leaves
