Port Orford Cedar -- Chamaecyparis lawsoniana

Originally established for the purpose of hybridizing conifers, Eddy Arboretum is the oldest institution in the country where this kind of research program has been undertaken. Today, the visitor can see the results of those trials in the beautiful rows of pines, planted so many years ago. And even if the particulars of these hybrid specimens hold little attraction, the Arboretum is worthy of a visit for the simple pleasure of walking amongst the stately trees. It is a place with a unique history and an important role in the present. More than a museum, Eddy is a repository of knowledge with applications to the preservation of vital resources—the great forest trees—for future generations.
