Ganoderma oregonense  — Western Varnished Conk — Ganodermataceae


Large annual polypore. Fruiting body thick, elongated and hooflike, with a short, thick lateral stalk; surface smooth, shiny, “varnished” mahogany color; margin pale. Pores small, pallid and bruising dark brown (one of the “artist conks”). Saprophytic.
 
 
Habitat:  Usually solitary on conifer snags and logs, often on Western Hemlock. 

Scent: Not distinctive

Spores: Brown

Season: Autumn
