Gomphus floccosus — Woolly Chanterelle— Gomphaceae


Medium to large mushroom, broadly club- to horn-shaped. Cap at maturity depressed at the center, with a wavy margin; surface dry, covered with large, reddish-orange scales (not actually “woolly”). Gills and stalk absent; instead, spores are borne on blunt, forked, decurrent ridges, creamy-white to buff, becoming brownish. Mycorrhizal.
 
 
Habitat:  Scattered or in small groups. Most often in old-growth Douglas-fir forests. 

Scent: Mild

Spores: Ochre

Season: Autumn
