Small to medium polypore. Convex cap, circular or fan-shaped, sometimes with central depression; dry surface, hairy or velvety, whitish aging to tan, ochre or various brown hues. Concentric zones sometimes present. Pores small, roundish, sometimes toothlike when mature, and often torn, bruising brown; pore surface brown to gray. Stalk sometimes absent or short, similar color to cap or darker. Saprophytic or parasitic.

Habitat: Solitary or groups, terrestrial or on coniferous stumps or trunks. Can cause a white rot.
