Fruiting body growing on Russula and Lactarius species. Surface pimpled tissue, bright orange to purplish or yellowish, firm. Host quickly engulfed. Host and parasite together resemble an inverted pyramid. Parasitic.
 
Habitat: Solitary or groups, sometimes partially buried, often on large-gilled mushrooms.

Scent: Not distinctive

Spores: Pale yellow to pale brown

Season: Autumn
