Susan's photographic work reflects her interest in a range of subjects. Trees have always been special and her first photos were made with 35mm slide film. The use of digital cameras has provided many opportunities for pursuing the interest in photographing trees in a range of environments.
Her companion website, The Trees of North America: Across the Continent with a Camera, presents photographs and description of 600 native trees found in North America north of Mexico, from every corner of the United States and Canada.
For Mount Rainier, she has photographed more than 600 of the 750 some species native to the Park, and can be found at Rainier in Bloom.
More than 800 of her photos of trees and other North American native plants can be found in the National Plants Database, hosted by the United States Department of Agriculture. Nearly 400 are online at the website of the University of Washington Herbarium (use the image search option), and more than 1200 are availble at Calphotos. Most of the use of these images has been by students, researchers, and writers. With permission, the images may be used for non-commercial purposes and, again with permission and for a fee, commercial purposes as well. Please contact Susan for details.
