The Quarters
Long stone walls, old buildings, fences, and fields, reveal with their presence a historical complexity to an arboretum that is quite unlike any other. There is a sense here of entering a place that once teemed with other activities, where the necessities of growing and harvesting defined the land. This was an early nineteenth-century farm, a vital place in terms of human endeavors long before many other future arboretums had seen the turn of a plow or harvesting with the ax.
